The toughest of the three Heritage billfolds, and the one to buy for somebody who is hard on their things.

Traditional bifold, the shape he already carries, in American bison. Bison is thick and coarse-grained and it does not mark easily. It arrives with some stiffness in it and it looks better in year three than it does the day you open it.

Three ways to buy it. Brown and black are Rogue's standard bison. The third is Horween dark brown, from the Chicago tannery that has been at this since 1908, and it runs a little richer and a little more expensive. Same wallet, better hide.

Details

  • Genuine bison leather in brown, black or Horween dark brown
  • Traditional billfold, not the front pocket shape
  • 4 card slots, holds 12 cards
  • Full billfold and stash pocket
  • The inside of the bill area is unfinished raw leather, which is how these are built
  • 4.5 by 3.5 by 0.25 inches, 2.8 ounces
  • Backed by a two-year warranty

Same wallet, three leathers

The Heritage billfold comes in three hides and they are genuinely different to live with. This one is the toughest. Moose is softer in the hand with a little more give. Baseball glove leather is the softest of the three and the least expensive, and it arrives already broken in.

Who makes it

Rogue Industries, in Standish, Maine. Michael Lyons started it in 2007 because he was tired of sitting on a fat back-pocket wallet, taught himself leatherwork, and came out of it holding two patents on a front pocket shape. The workshop runs on solar.

I did not make this and I am not going to imply I did. What I can tell you is it is made in the United States by a shop that puts its own name on it and backs it for two years, which is the same standard I hold the turquoise to.

Free US shipping over $75. The Horween ships free. Brown and black are $65, so add a pair of studs and the shipping is on me.
